South African elder statesman Nelson Mandela teams up with veteran-rockers
Peter Gabriel, Brian May, Annie Lennox, Roger Taylor and Dave Stewart ahead of
a Capetown concert in his name to raise AIDS awareness which is to be broadcast
worldwide on MTV on December 1.
In London, meanwhile, the Belgravia Gallery exhibited a series of bleak sketches
by Mandela recording his 18-year stretch in Robben Island jail at the height of
South Africa's apartheid regime. The limited edition lithographs were to be sold
for charity.
