Bernard Sickert: View of Rye by Fine Oil Paintings

Bernard Sickert: View of Rye

Oil on canvas

Size:

Bernard was born in Munich into a family of painters, his father Oswald and his famous brother, Walter. The family arrived in England in 1868 and although Walter, three years his elder, started at the Slade in 1860, it was not until 1885 that Bernard was able to concentrate on his painting. He became a member of the NEAC in 1888 and had his first show in 1895 along with his brother, at the then celebrated Dutch Gallery. His main influence outside his artistic family, was his tutor, Whistler. He frequently travelled with Walter and spent much time with him in Dieppe.
