Auguste Leroux: Au Bord De La Mediterranee

Born in Paris, Leroux studied under Bonnat and was soon exhibiting regularly. In 1894 he won the Grand Prix de Rome and in 1900 he was awarded a medal in the great Universal Exhibition in Paris. In 1904 he was made a member of the Salon des Artistes
Francais. He was much in demand as an illustrator; he worked with Balzac, Flaubert and De Maupassant among others and illustrated the first edition of Jules Vernes 'Around the World in 80 Days'. His works are held by many good collections
including
the Museum of Modern Art and Museum Victor Hugo in Paris, Bayeux, Dijon and St Omer museums.
