Jean Isy de Botton: La Mer Sur La Plage 1898 - 1965
Oil on canvas
Size:
Jean Isy de Botton first exhibited in the Paris Salons in 1926 when his work was shown at the Salon des Independants. He continued to exhibit there until the 1930's when his work was also displayed at the Salon des Tuilleries. At a time when artists
were descending upon France, particularly Paris, de Botton instead went to work in the USA and England, where he had more than 50 solo exhibitions in all. Whilst in England he became the official painter to the English Court and was
commissioned
to
paint the crowning of George VI in 1937. His post-Cubist style led the way for a generation of painters looking for a different way of expressing the visual world. De Botton's work is now exhibited in Metropolitan Museum of
Art
in New York and
The
Museum of Modern Art, Paris.
