The Sojourner (A tribute to Barak Obama)
Oil on Canvas
Size: 72 x 64 inches
Barack Obama's autobiographical book, Dreams from My Father has a quote from the Bible as the inscription: "For we are strangers before them, and sojourners, as were all our fathers."
Here Obama refers to himself, and more largely to the human
condition, as like the Jews of the Old Testament, moving in and out of God's favour and their home in the Holy Land, exiles who are in a never ending quest for meaning.
Artist Monroe Hodder is a fervid supporter of Obama. She worked for
him
as
a volunteer in Colorado, a key swing state, last summer and was present at Obama's acceptance speech in the Mile High Denver stadium
before returning to her own expat life in London. "Obama will change America, he will change the
world,
and he
will
win," she states emphatically.
Hodder's new painting "The Sojourner" is her personal tribute to Obama. An abstract work, the bold colour and brash strokes express an easy confidence and unfettered optimism that leads us
to hope
Obama can
do what
she believes in these very troubled times.
